Find the Mass Pike. (Accomplishing this is left as an exercise for the reader.) Drive west until you reach New York, where the Mass Pike continues as Interstate 90, but is now the New York State Thruway.
Just past Albany, exit the Thruway onto Interstate 88 west. Follow 88 west until you reach Bainbridge, and then take Route 206 west. Continue on 206 west until you reach Whitney Point, cross over the bridge, and turn right at the light. Follow directions from Whitney Point.
(If you prefer avoiding roller-coaster-like two-lane highways, skip 206 by continuing on 88 until Binghamton, get on 81 north, and follow directions from 81 northbound.)
From Buffalo or Rochester
Take the New York State Thruway (I-90) east and get off at exit 41, Waterloo. Turn right after the toll booth onto 414, and then left at the gas station onto 318. Travel east on 318 for several miles, then turn left onto routes 5 and 20. (They run together for quite a while.) Turn immediately right onto 89 south. Take 89 south to Ithaca, turn left onto Route 13 north, and continue up the hill to Triphammer Road, where the hotels are.
From New Jersey or NYC
Take your favorite approach to Interstate 80, and head west. Then take 380 west to 81 north. (You can continue on 80, but that takes longer.) Follow directions from 81 northbound.
From Middletown or West Point area
Take your favorite approach to NY Route 17 (soon to be Interstate 86), and head west towards Binghamton. 17 merges with I-81 in Binghamton; stay on 81 northbound. Follow directions from 81 northbound.
From Ocean City, MD area
Take I-95 and 495 towards Philadelphia, then follow the directions from Philadelphia. OR, and we think this makes more sense but we leave it to your judgement, take I-95 north to I-83 north to I-81 north, then follow the directions from I-81 Northbound.
From Philadelphia
Take the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-476) to the
end and follow the signs to get onto I-81 N. Then follow the directions
from I-81 Northbound.
From Pittsburgh
Take I-79 north to I-80, then I-80 east. Take Route 220 north for about thirty miles, then Route 15 north for about fifty miles. Take I-86 (formerly Route 17) east towards Elmira, and Route 13 north to Ithaca.
From Route 81 Northbound
Follow 81 north into New York. Get off at the Whitney Point exit, exit 8. It will have a sign for Ithaca and a sign for Route 79 west.
Turn right at the top of the exit ramp, go down to a T intersection where you HAVE to turn left or right, and turn left. You are following signs for Route 79 all the way, so you won't get lost. Follow directions from Whitney point.
From Whitney Point
You'll pass through Whitney Point's row of gas stations and fast food places and diners and head back out of town, and then Route 79 west will begin to look more like country highway.
Continue on Route 79 west to Richford. After a long curvy downhill, you'll be at a four-way flashing stop light in Richford. Continue west on Route 79, toward Ithaca. Route 79 will take you down a long hill into downtown Ithaca, where the Holiday Inn is. If you continue west on 79, you'll reach Route 13, where you can turn right to head to Triphammer Road, or follow signs to Route 89 to get to Glenwood Pines.
